Reporting to the Maintenance and Facility Manager, this role is focused on the optimal functioning of the plant including the maintenance of the facility and improving business performance. The Maintenance and Facility Assistant Manager is responsible for controlling maintenance systems, overseeing repairs, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and building a positive working environment in a high pace setting. This role is also responsible for managing various projects and budgets and ensuring they are completed effectively and efficiently. This role provides leadership to the Maintenance Operations team and facilitates development and training as required and provides coaching and feedback to their direct reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leader of Maintenance Operations

Maintain production facility and equipment

  • Ensure effective deployment of maintenance staff for repairs and projects while minimizing overtime
  • Implement and enforce Safety policies and practices for the department and outside contractors. Develop, implement and enforce preventative and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and achieve desired efficiencies
  • Ensure emergency situations responded to in a rapid manner

Assist manager in developing and controlling of maintenance and repairs budget

  • Ensure spending is maintained within budget levels
  • Maintain detailed communication with appropriate staff on status of maintenance budget and develop approval requests for any overages

Assist in the development and implementation of initiatives and capital expenditure requests to optimize assets and production processes or reduce costs

Participate as part of Operations Management Team, providing them with appropriate information and excellent customer service

Manage and maintain Wastewater facility in conjunction with Ontario Clean Water

Manage Maintenance of outside grounds and all aspects of building maintenance

Assist with new equipment installations

Demonstrate and promote The Conestoga WAY

Coach to Direct Reports

Manage and guide Supervisors to schedule, train, and motivate Maintenance Operations team members

  • Request training as required
  • Complete annual performance assessment process and for maintenance supervisors
  • Meet regularly with direct reports to provide coaching and feedback via 1:1's   


  • Post-secondary education in a related field (Engineering, Class A Millwright or Electrician preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, schematics and technical manuals
  • Robust understanding of: Engineering concepts, Hydraulics, Electrical and Electronics, Millwrighting and mechanical systems, Robotics and PLC's,
  • 5 plus years in a management role
  • Proven leadership skills and a personal value set the corresponds with The Conestoga WAY
  • Proficient with MS Office programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills / team orientation
  • Self-motivated and results oriented with an ability to perform well under pressure
  • Customer focused and demonstrated sense of urgency
